PM Modi Calls Reservation Key Issue of 2024, Brands Opposition as “Minorities’ Biggest Enemy

New Delhi, 28th May.
In a recent exclusive interview with ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised the stakes in the ongoing political discourse, highlighting reservation as a pivotal issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Accusing the opposition, particularly the INDIA bloc, of engaging in what he terms “vote bank politics,” Modi has rallied for the protection of constitutional rights, particularly those of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

The Prime Minister minced no words in his criticism, asserting that the opposition’s actions amounted to a betrayal of the very communities they claim to champion. “Those who call themselves well-wishers of the Dalits, Tribals, are in reality their staunch enemies,” he declared, shedding light on what he perceives as a grave betrayal of trust.

One of the core contentions raised by Modi revolves around the alleged conversion of educational institutions into minority institutions, a move he claims directly undermines the reservation system. By designating numerous institutions as minority entities, Modi argues, reservations for SC, ST, and OBC groups have been eroded, posing a significant threat to their access to education and employment opportunities.

Modi reserved particular criticism for the Congress party, citing their manifesto’s proposal to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs. He likened this move to the approach of the Muslim League, expressing concern over its potential ramifications on the future of India’s youth.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister vehemently opposed the idea of reserving government tenders for minorities, emphasizing the importance of awarding contracts based on merit and capability rather than religious affiliation.

Recent events, such as the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel OBC certificates, have only served to intensify Modi’s allegations against the opposition. He condemned what he described as a “big fraud” perpetrated against OBCs, urging a reevaluation of the political landscape’s ethical standards.

With the Lok Sabha elections progressing through six phases and the final phase slated for June 1, Modi’s remarks have injected fresh vigor into the electoral arena. As the nation braces for the culmination of this electoral saga on June 4, the debate surrounding reservation and minority rights promises to remain at the forefront of political discourse.
