“People of Delhi Have Rejected Kejriwal”: BJP’s Manoj Tiwari on AAP’s Defeat

New Delhi, 8th Feb. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, suffered a crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making a strong comeback after over two decades. The outcome, seen as a referendum on Kejriwal’s governance, prompted BJP leader Manoj Tiwari to recall the AAP chief’s bold claim in 2023 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would need “another lifetime” to defeat him in Delhi.

“Arvind Kejriwal ji, you have been defeated in this lifetime. You are not just losing to everyone, you no longer reside in people’s hearts; there is hatred against you,” Tiwari told NDTV.

As per the latest trends, the BJP has comfortably crossed the majority mark in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, unseating AAP from power. Adding to the blow, Kejriwal lost his New Delhi constituency seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, a two-time MP from West Delhi. The AAP chief trailed by approximately 1,200 votes, while Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit finished third.

“This is a victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantees. The people of Delhi do not like Arvind Kejriwal. The Modi government’s welfare schemes worked,” Tiwari added.

AAP’s political trajectory has seen dramatic shifts since its debut. In 2013, the party won 28 seats and formed a short-lived 49-day government. It made a stunning comeback in 2015 with 67 out of 70 seats and retained power in 2020 with 62 seats, despite BJP’s growing presence. This year, however, the BJP has turned the tide, pushing AAP to a distant second place, marking a major political shift in the national capital.
