New Delhi, 20th May: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday unanimously condemned the online trolling of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and praised his professionalism during a sensitive phase in Indo-Pak relations, sources said.

Misri had been briefing the committee on the India-Pakistan military escalation following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. The Foreign Secretary came under sharp criticism on social media after India and Pakistan agreed on May 10 to halt all military actions. Despite the backlash, Misri received strong backing from political leaders, ex-bureaucrats, and defence veterans for his diplomacy and conduct.

The meeting of the committee, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, saw attendance from across the political spectrum, including TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, Congress leaders Rajeev Shukla and Deepender Hooda, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi and Arun Govil.

The deliberations were held in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, a military operation launched by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the Pahalgam terror strike. Misri’s handling of the diplomatic fallout was discussed in detail, with lawmakers unanimously acknowledging his role in navigating a tense geopolitical situation.

Committee members reiterated the importance of standing behind public officials executing their duties under national interest and condemned personal attacks against diplomats.
