Pak Violates Ceasefire Hours After Truce; India Orders Full Force Response

Jammu/Srinagar, 10th May: In an audacious violation of the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan on Saturday unleashed a wave of firing and drone activity across multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, mere hours after agreeing to halt hostilities. The immediate and widespread aggression prompted a directive for the Border Security Force (BSF) to respond with full force to the unprovoked attacks.

The escalation erupted shortly after India announced that a ceasefire had been reached following Pakistan’s initiation of truce talks, an agreement the Pakistan government also subsequently confirmed. Despite the formal understanding, the peace was shattered by Pakistan’s actions, which began late Friday evening and intensified Saturday.

Multiple blasts rocked Srinagar, triggering a red alert and enforced blackout in the area. A drone was shot down in Rajasthan’s Pokhran, deep within Indian territory, alongside another downed in Baramulla, Kashmir, where suspicious Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were repeatedly spotted. The Pakistan Army resorted to artillery shelling along the International Border in the Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura sectors, with ceasefire violations also reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Palanwalla sector of Jammu. Blackouts were ruthlessly enforced in both Baramulla and Srinagar, and aerial activity near Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi pilgrims, also led to a blackout and an air raid siren blaring in Samba district.

The unprovoked aggression extended to Punjab, with drone activities sighted across Gurudaspur, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Hoshiyarpur, Jalandhar, and Faridkot. Alarmed authorities in Jalandhar and Ludhiana urged residents to remain on high alert and directed blackouts, with the Jalandhar administration issuing a stark plea for the public to “stay indoors and must go for a voluntary blackout wherever is possible” in view of the rapidly changing circumstances.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed furious disbelief at the timing and nature of the attacks, just hours after the ceasefire was announced. “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!,” he tweeted, adding, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” and shared a video appearing to show the air defence response to the drone attack.

The ceasefire agreement, reached during discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries on Saturday afternoon after talks were initiated by Pakistan, was intended to bring an end to the recent intense military operations that followed the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. However, the immediate violations by Pakistan have severely undermined the fragile truce, underscoring India’s directive for its forces to remain fully vigilant and ready to counter any further aggression decisively.
