Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, 14th Nov: AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed confidence on Thursday that his party’s candidates will win both the Aurangabad Central and East Assembly seats in the upcoming elections. Owaisi, speaking to ANI, emphasized that if successful, his candidates will take up key issues like Maratha reservation in the Maharashtra Assembly.
“We are confident of winning both the seats in Aurangabad. The biggest issues here are drinking water shortages, lack of housing for the poor, and problems with roads and drainage. Maratha reservation is also a significant issue. If our candidates win, they will demand Maratha reservation in the Assembly,” Owaisi said.
Former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel is contesting from Aurangabad East, while Naseer Siddiqui is standing for election in Aurangabad Central. Owaisi campaigned for Jaleel in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly known as Aurangabad) on Sunday.
The party, which won the Malegaon Central and Dhule seats in the 2019 Assembly elections after contesting 44 seats, is now contesting 16 seats in this election. Owaisi clarified that despite efforts, AIMIM was not able to form an alliance with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for this election. “We had expressed our willingness to join forces with MVA to defeat the BJP, but they did not contact us,” said Waris Pathan, a former AIMIM leader contesting from Bhiwandi West.
Campaigning for the 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra is intensifying, with both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition MVA pushing hard to secure votes. The elections are scheduled for November 20, with results set to be declared on November 23.
