Lucknow, 15th July. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the first major meeting of the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit since the recent Lok Sabha poll setback, admitted that overconfidence had affected the party’s performance in this year’s elections.
Speaking at the UP BJP working committee meeting held at the Ambedkar Auditorium of Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University on Sunday, Adityanath highlighted the need for unity and vigilance against divisive tactics employed by the opposition.
Adityanath said, “Under the leadership of PM Modi, we maintained pressure on the opposition, achieving significant success in 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2022 elections. While our vote share remained consistent with previous years, the shifting of votes and overconfidence hurt our expectations.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks come on the heels of the BJP-led NDA’s less-than-expected performance in recent by-elections across seven states, where the I.N.D.I.A bloc secured victories in 10 out of 13 assembly constituencies.
Adityanath cautioned against divisive politics based on caste lines, asserting, “The sin of dividing society during elections is well-known. A united society can overcome any challenge.”
Highlighting the role of social media, Adityanath emphasized its strategic importance, stating, “We must leverage social media platforms extensively. During elections, opposition and foreign elements conspired successfully through social media. The BJP stands firm with its nationalist vision.”
Responding to allegations during the Lok Sabha campaign, Adityanath affirmed, “BJP does not discriminate based on caste, religion, or creed. Our policies, including free ration distribution to 80 crore people, are based on inclusivity.”
Addressing the party’s achievements in governance, Adityanath praised improvements in law and order, emphasizing the success of the ‘mafia-free UP’ initiative post-2022 elections.
He also credited the BJP’s efforts in health care, stating, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, we tackled encephalitis in eastern UP, a disease that plagued the region for over four decades.”
The meeting, attended by BJP national leaders including JP Nadda, focused on revitalizing the party’s strategies ahead of future electoral challenges, aiming to strengthen grassroots support and reinforce the BJP’s standing in Uttar Pradesh politics.
