New Delhi, 3rd Jan. Over 100 flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Friday morning as dense fog reduced visibility to zero in parts of the national capital. The thick fog, which engulfed the city early in the morning, led to disruptions in flight schedules.
According to airport officials, while flights continue to land and take off, those not compliant with Category III (CAT III) standards for low-visibility conditions may face delays. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) issued an advisory asking passengers to contact their airlines for the latest updates, apologizing for the inconvenience caused.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that visibility at the airport was reduced to zero meters, with very dense fog recorded. Runways at the airport were operating under CAT-III, allowing flights to proceed despite the low visibility. The city’s temperature dropped to 7°C, with the maximum temperature forecasted to be around 17°C.
Air quality in Delhi was reported as “very poor,” with an AQI of 351 at 9 am, while humidity levels reached 100%. The IMD warned of continued dense fog throughout the day. Passengers flying out of Delhi are advised to stay informed about their flight statuses due to the ongoing weather conditions.
