Bengaluru, 2nd Oct. A video showing a Congress worker removing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s shoes while holding the Indian flag has sparked controversy. The BJP has accused Siddaramaiah of “insulting the nation’s pride,” already under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam.
The video, shot during a Gandhi Jayanti event in Bengaluru, shows a Congress worker holding a small Tricolour in one hand while removing Siddaramaiah’s shoes. A security official is later seen taking the flag from the worker, but the incident has angered people online, with many calling for the Indian flag to be respected.
Senior BJP leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy reacted strongly on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “It’s an insult to the Nation’s pride…Congress leaders must apologize to the Nation.”
In another development, Siddaramaiah faces allegations linked to a MUDA land allotment scandal. Plots of land in a prime area of Mysuru were allotted to his wife, BN Parvathi, as compensation for land in a nearby village. Critics claim this caused a loss of ₹45 crore to the state. On Tuesday, MUDA confirmed that Ms. Parvathi offered to return the plots, stating it was a matter of conscience. The sale deeds are now being canceled.
Siddaramaiah has maintained his innocence, attributing the original land de-notification to former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, and said his legal team would contest the case. However, Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra likened the return of the land to an admission of guilt.
