New Delhi, 25th Oct. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany and his delegation during a joint press conference in New Delhi. This marks Chancellor Scholz’s third visit to India in two years, highlighting the robust strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Prime Minister noted the significant activities taking place over the last few days, including addressing the Asia Pacific Conference for German Business, the conclusion of the first Inter-Governmental Consultation (IGC) of his third term, and a meeting with CEOs. He also mentioned German naval ships visiting Goa and friendly hockey matches between the two countries.
Modi praised Germany’s “Focus on India” strategy, describing it as a comprehensive blueprint for modernizing the partnership between the two democracies. He announced the launch of an innovation and technology roadmap, aimed at enhancing cooperation in Critical and Emerging Technologies, Skill Development, and Innovation, particularly in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors, and Clean Energy. This roadmap is expected to help build secure global supply chains.
Emphasizing defense and security cooperation, the Prime Minister highlighted the new agreement on the exchange of classified information and the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, which will aid in combating terrorism.
Modi reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to green and sustainable growth, announcing the second phase of the Green Urban Mobility Partnership and the launch of the Green Hydrogen Roadmap.
Addressing global concerns, he reiterated India’s stance that war cannot resolve conflicts, referencing ongoing issues in Ukraine and West Asia, and expressed readiness to contribute to peace efforts. Both leaders agreed on the importance of freedom of navigation and rule of law in the Indo-Pacific.
Modi also advocated for reform in global institutions to address 21st-century challenges, emphasizing the need for changes in the UN Security Council.
Highlighting the importance of people-to-people connections, he announced new collaborations in skills development and vocational education, including a Dual Degree program between IIT Chennai and Dresden University. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of Indian talent, welcoming Germany’s “Skilled Labour Strategy.”
Concluding his remarks, Modi stated that Chancellor Scholz’s visit has infused new energy into their partnership, which he believes is now clearer and brighter for the future, affirming, “In German, Alles klar, Alles gut!”
