shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh: After an hour and a half speech in Lok Sabha on Friday PM Modi today addressed farmers in UP Shahjahanpur criticizing opposition on misleading farmers of the nation.
In his address Modi said, “The government has decided to give you a profit of about 80 per cent over your sugarcane input costs. We have also increased prices from Rs.200 to Rs. 1800 for 14 other crops. And this is unprecedented. Those who are shedding crocodile tears today about farmers had the opportunity to do this too but they did not do anything.”
While digging at Congress president infamous hug Modi said, “Yesterday in parliament I asked them please tell me the reason for this no-confidence…when they could not give me a reason, woh gale pad gaye (he came and hugged me) but could not give a satisfactory explanation”.
“Till people are with me no party can do anything. Jab dal ke saath dal hon toh dal-dal ho jaata hai…aur kamal dal-dal main hi khilta hai (when many parties get together muck is created and lotus blooms in the muck),” said the Prime Minister.
Shahjahanpur is in the sugar belt of central Uttar Pradesh and has one of the biggest mandis. Farmers in large numbers from Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Sitapur, Bareilly and Badaun were present at rally.
Today’s rally was the fourth rally of PM in Uttar Pradesh this month itself and first after no confidence vote. The importance given to the UP can be seen as BJP is eying for the 2019 general election. In last election BJP single handedly won 71 seats out of 80 from Uttar Pradesh.
