New Delhi, 12th Dec. Several opposition MPs, led by the Congress, staged a unique protest on Thursday within the Parliament complex, holding placards of different Hindi letters that collectively spelled out ‘Desh Bikne Nahin Denge’ (Will not let the country be sold off). The demonstration underscored their demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the allegations surrounding the Adani Group.
The protest took place near the iconic Makar Dwar steps and in front of Samvidhan Sadan, with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joining MPs from the Congress, DMK, and Left parties. The protesters also raised slogans alleging collusion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani.
This protest is part of a series of daily demonstrations by the opposition during the Winter session. On Wednesday, opposition MPs distributed tricolour-themed cards and red roses to BJP members, urging constructive debates on critical issues, including the Adani matter. Rahul Gandhi even presented Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with a tricolour card outside Parliament.
Earlier in the week, opposition MPs carried dark blue bags featuring caricatures of Modi and Adani with slogans like ‘Modi-Adani Bhai-Bhai’ (Modi and Adani are brothers). On Monday, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, staged a mock “interview” where party members wore masks of the PM and Adani to highlight their grievances.
The protests have gained momentum after a US court indicted officials of the Adani Group, a development the Congress claims vindicates its demand for a JPC probe. Rahul Gandhi has called for Adani’s immediate arrest, while the Congress has accused the Modi government of shielding the conglomerate.
The Adani Group has dismissed these allegations as baseless, but opposition parties continue to ramp up pressure, demanding accountability and transparency in the matter.
