Srinagar, 9th Oct. In view of the recent assembly poll results in Haryana, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah stated on Wednesday that the Congress party must engage in deep introspection to understand the reasons behind its defeat, as the BJP appears poised to secure a third consecutive term.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah remarked on the inaccuracies of the exit polls, which had predicted a Congress majority.
“I had already said we were only wasting our time with these exit polls. But no one would have thought that the exit polls would be so wrong. Had it been 20 in place of 18 or 22 in place of 20, we could have understood. But what happened was that 30 became 60 and 60 became 30,” he explained.
Abdullah emphasized that the Congress party needs to critically analyze its performance in the elections. “The Congress will have to go deep into it and find the reasons for its defeat,” he added.
As the National Conference and Congress prepare to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir—marking the first such alliance since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019—Abdullah reaffirmed his commitment to leading the NC and supporting the coalition.
