New Delhi, 25th Dec. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led tributes to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, New Delhi, on their birth anniversaries on December 25, 2024. Birla paid floral tributes at the portraits of both leaders, remembering their significant contributions to the nation.
In attendance were Union Ministers including Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda (Health and Family Welfare), Ashwini Vaishnaw (Railways, Information and Broadcasting), Piyush Goyal (Commerce and Industry), Bhupender Yadav (Environment), and Kiren Rijiju (Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs). The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Members of Parliament and former MPs, also participated in the ceremony.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat presented booklets on the life and achievements of both leaders in Hindi and English to the dignitaries. The portraits of Pandit Malaviya and Vajpayee were unveiled in the Central Hall on 19 December 1957 and 12 February 2019, respectively, as a mark of their exceptional service to the nation.
Pandit Malaviya was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, while Atal Bihari Vajpayee was honored with the Bharat Ratna in 2015.
Earlier in the day, Om Birla also paid floral tributes to Vajpayee at ‘Sadaiv Atal’ in New Delhi. On social media, he expressed his respect for Vajpayee, calling him a wise politician, poet, and mentor who enriched India’s parliamentary traditions.
In his tribute to Pandit Malaviya, Birla acknowledged his dedication to education and the foundation of Banaras Hindu University, which blended Indian culture with modern science, inspiring generations of Indians.
