UNITED NATIONS – UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the continued displacement crisis in Sudan, with the ongoing conflict driving thousands more refugees into neighbouring countries.

Some 25,000 people fled to eastern Chad, marked the highest weekly influx this year, OCHA said.

The intensifying violence in Sudan, Chad had now hosts over 600,000 Sudanese refugees, which is more than any other country in the region.

Three million refugees have fled Sudan, seeking safety in countries such as the Central African Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, South Sudan, and Uganda.

International Organization for Migration reported that 40,000 people have been newly displaced in the first half of October alone. Total internal displacement has now reached 8.2 million.

OCHA is calling on all parties to stop the fighting, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian access.

In Chad, the Birak Health Centre is overwhelmed by the influx of refugees, with funding shortages slowing down the provision of essential services.

The cholera outbreak continues to worsen, with over 24,000 reported cases and 700 deaths since mid-July.

UNHCR is working to relocate refugees and provide large-scale immunization, but funding limitations persist.
