New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday marked the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), praising the scheme’s transformative role in fostering inclusive growth, financial empowerment, and grassroots entrepreneurship across India.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the scheme’s beneficiaries under the hashtag #10YearsOfMUDRA. “Over this decade, MUDRA Yojana has turned several dreams into reality,” he said. “It illustrates that for the people of India, nothing is impossible!”
Launched in 2015, PMMY provides collateral-free microloans to non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises. The scheme has particularly benefited sections that were historically underserved in formal banking systems.
PM Modi highlighted the impact of MUDRA in empowering marginalised communities. “It is particularly heartening that half of the MUDRA beneficiaries belong to SC, ST, and OBC communities, and over 70% of the beneficiaries are women,” he noted. “Every MUDRA loan carries with it dignity, self-respect, and opportunity.”
He further stated that the scheme has achieved more than financial inclusion—it has also promoted social equity and economic self-reliance.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to entrepreneurship-led growth, the Prime Minister said, “In the times to come, our Government will continue focusing on ensuring a robust ecosystem where every aspiring entrepreneur has access to credit, thus giving him or her the confidence and a chance to grow.”
Over the past decade, the MUDRA scheme has sanctioned over ₹25 lakh crore in loans, benefiting crores of small-scale entrepreneurs and contributing significantly to employment generation, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions.
