Muzaffarnagar, 21st Oct. A court in Uttar Pradesh issued non-bailable warrants on Monday against several Hindutva activists and BJP leaders, including state minister Kapil Dev Agrawal and Dasna temple priest Yati Narsinghanand. The warrants were issued for their failure to appear in connection with the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case.
Special Judge Devendra Faujdar of the MP-MLA court set October 29 for framing charges against the accused and directed all to appear before the court on that date. Notably present in court on Monday were former Union minister Sanjeev Balyan, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sadhvi Prachi, and other prominent political figures.
The prosecution alleges that the accused participated in a panchayat meeting in Naglamador village, where they incited violence through their speeches. The riots, which erupted in August 2013, led to the deaths of over 60 individuals and displaced more than 40,000 in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts.
As the legal proceedings continue, the court emphasizes the necessity of accountability for those involved in the tragic events of the past.
