New Delhi, 7th Nov. The process of filing nominations for the upcoming civic elections in Delhi began on Monday.
The municipal elections in Delhi will be held on December 4, and the votes will be counted on December 7, according to State Election Commissioner (SEC) Vijay Dev.
“Nominations will be accepted beginning November 7, and the deadline is November 14,” Dev said at a press conference here, setting the stage for the high-stakes civic polls, which are widely expected to be a three-way race.
Nominations will be scrutinized on November 16, with the deadline for withdrawal of candidature on November 19.
This will be the first civic election following the new delimitation exercise, and the much-anticipated poll covering 250 wards will take place between the two phases of the Gujarat assembly elections, which will be held on December 1 and 5.
Candidates can submit their nominations between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to SEC officials.
Soon after the date was announced, both the BJP and the AAP expressed confidence that they would win. The Delhi Congress claimed that it had been laying the groundwork for the MCD elections for a year.
The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) took effect in the national capital on Friday.
According to data shared by authorities on Sunday, more than 1.2 lakh posters, banners, hoardings, and other such materials have been removed in Delhi since the model code of conduct went into effect.
