Noida Woman Quits Corporate Job, Ranks in UPSC Top 20

Wardah Khan, a resident of Noida, left her corporate job to prepare for civil services. She achieved the 18th rank in the UPSC exam 2023, results of which were announced by the UPSC on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old UPSC qualifier has chosen the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) as her first preference and aims to represent India on global platforms.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ms. Khan expressed her surprise at making it to the top 20. She mentioned feeling like she is living a dream and that her family is extremely proud of her.

Ms. Khan, who lives in Vivek Vihar in Noida’s Sector 82, completed her Bachelors in Commerce (Honours) from Khalsa College, Delhi University. She lives with her mother as her father passed away nine years ago.

During her college days, Ms. Khan developed an interest in geopolitics, history, and polity. It was during her brief corporate job experience that she realized her passion for serving the country as a civil servant.

She prepared for the UPSC exam at home and also took online coaching for a year from a private institution. Ms. Khan emphasized the importance of being thorough with basic books like NCERT and Polity by Laxmikant for UPSC preparation.

A total of 1,016 candidates, including 352 women, have qualified in the UPSC examination. Aditya Srivastava secured the top position, followed by Animesh Pradhan, Donuru Ananya Reddy, P K Sidharth Ramkumar, and Ruhani in the top five ranks.
