No Religious Procession in UP without Due Permission: CM Yogi

Lucknow, 21st April. Amid the ongoing loudspeaker controversy and several violence incidents during religious processions, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that no religious procession can be taken out without due permission from the administration.

The organisers will be required to state on affidavit that they will maintain peace and harmony before permission is alloted. Also, only traditional festivities will be allowed and no new events will be given permission, a tweet from the chief minister’s official twitter account said.

Besides, the UP government would not allow use of loudspeakers for any new event or procession. Those who are already using the loudspeakers can continue it, but they must ensure that the volume should not disturb anyone, the statement said.

Religious processions can only be organized at designated spots and roads can not be blocked, it added.

Saying that everyone has the freedom to follow his way of worship according to his religious ideology, CM Yogi, “Although mikes can be used, make sure the sound does not come out of the premises. Other people should not have any problem.”

In a statement, the Uttar Pradesh government stated that the instructions are being issued as the upcoming festivals of Eid and Akshay Tritiya are likely to fall on the same date early next month.

In case of loudspeaker use, beyond the permissible decibel unit, the concerned authorities can take action under Environment Protection Act, 1986. There is a provision of five years imprisonment and penalty of Rs 10000, if the Act is violated.

As per rules, no loudspeaker can be used between 10 PM in the night till 6.00 am in the morning. Besides, the loudspeaker cannot be used within a 100-meter radius of hospitals and schools.
