New Delhi: In celebration of the ‘International Day for Monuments and Sites’ on April 18, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has announced free entry to all protected monuments and sites across the country. The initiative aims to foster public interest in India’s vast cultural and historical heritage.
With 3,698 monuments and sites under ASI’s protection, the fee waiver provides an opportunity for citizens to reconnect with the nation’s architectural marvels and historical legacy.
This year’s global theme—“Heritage under threat from disaster and conflicts”—highlights the urgent need to protect monuments from both natural and man-made threats. ASI’s move is expected to raise awareness about the significance of heritage preservation and promote community engagement in safeguarding these cultural assets.
“Conservation of our built heritage is a shared responsibility,” said an official statement. “As laid down in the Fundamental Duties of our Constitution, it is incumbent upon every citizen to contribute to the protection and preservation of these invaluable monuments.”
The ASI encourages all to visit heritage sites on April 18 and participate in the larger effort to protect India’s cultural patrimony.
