New Delhi, 27th Nov. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat asserted that spirituality and science are not contradictory but complementary, emphasizing that true understanding requires a reverent approach. Speaking at the launch of Mukul Kanitkar’s book Banayein Jeevan Pranawan in New Delhi, Dr. Bhagwat said, “Both spirituality and science reward those with humility and faith, not arrogance. Faith does not mean blind belief—it involves knowing and accepting with diligent understanding.”
The book, published by iView Enterprises, was unveiled at a ceremony held at the University of Delhi’s North Campus. Distinguished guests included Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Awadheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj of the Juna Akhara and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh.
Spirituality and Science: Complementary Realms
Dr. Bhagwat highlighted that for the past 2,000 years, the world has been dominated by the arrogance of material knowledge, often disregarding what lies beyond sensory perception. “Science has its boundaries; to assume that nothing exists beyond it is flawed. Indian culture, rooted in Sanatan Dharma, has uniquely combined external exploration with inward reflection, uncovering life’s truths at its core. This inward journey reveals that spirituality and science are not in opposition,” he said.
He further explained that while spirituality uses the mind as its tool, it draws energy from prana (life force). “The stronger the prana within, the more capable one is of advancing along the spiritual path,” Dr. Bhagwat added.
Perspectives from the Event
Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Awadheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj emphasized the omnipresence of prana, stating, “Life force stems from the divine, giving rise to consciousness, vitality, and expression. It is through prana that life gains its essence.”
Author Mukul Kanitkar elaborated on the scientific underpinnings of Indian culture, describing how ancient practices in Ayurveda, Vastu Shastra, and daily routines are deeply rooted in scientific principles. “During the last millennium of turmoil, much of this shastra (science) was forgotten, particularly the knowledge of prana. This book seeks to present these ancient truths in simple language, addressing the doubts of the modern generation,” he said.
Kanitkar also conducted a mudra practice at the event, enabling the audience to experience the power of prana. He explained that the book highlights the centrality of prana in Indian life and its profound role in sustaining the traditional Hindu way of living.
