New Delhi, 7th June.
At a meeting of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) newly-elected MPs, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reiterated his support for Narendra Modi’s candidacy for a third term as Prime Minister. Kumar, who previously aligned with the INDIA opposition bloc before switching allegiance to the BJP, took a swipe at his former allies, accusing them of failing to contribute to the country’s progress.

Asserting his unwavering support for Modi, Kumar dismissed speculations of another political U-turn and affirmed his commitment to stand by the Prime Minister. His endorsement of Modi comes amid rumors that the INDIA bloc, which secured 232 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, had sought Kumar’s support.

Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) and Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) emerged as key players post-election, with their combined 28 MPs potentially holding sway in government formation. Despite the BJP falling short of the majority mark, Kumar’s pledge of support reinforces Modi’s position and the NDA’s prospects in the post-election landscape.

The BJP, which secured 240 seats, will likely rely on Kumar’s backing to navigate the complexities of coalition politics and ensure stable governance. As discussions on government formation unfold, Kumar’s support highlight the evolving dynamics within the NDA and the strategic calculations shaping alliances in Indian politics.
