Nirmala Sitharaman Shares Nostalgia Ahead of Japanese Ramayana Re-Release

Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reminisced about watching the acclaimed Japanese animated film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993. Taking to her official X handle, she expressed excitement about the film’s re-release on Sunday.

“A beautiful animated Ramayana. Fondly remember watching this Japanese cultural treasure sometime back. Was screened at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993. It now releases in the big screen,” Sitharaman wrote, sharing the film’s trailer.

In another post, Sitharaman informed viewers that the film will be available in Telugu and Hindi, sparking an outpouring of reactions online. Many users celebrated the re-release, with one calling it “a must-watch for all,” and others emphasizing the importance of promoting cultural heritage.

Originally released in 1993, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is an anime film co-produced by India and Japan, directed by Yugo Sako, Koichi Sasaki, and Ram Mohan. The English-dubbed version featured voices by actors like Nikhil Kapoor and Rael Padamsee. Fans can now revisit this Indo-Japanese cultural collaboration on the big screen.
