Bhopal, 17th Dec. The Madhya Pradesh government’s flagship Ladli Behna Yojana, aimed at providing financial assistance to women, has not initiated fresh registrations for beneficiaries since August 20, 2023. Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria confirmed this on Tuesday in a written reply to Congress MLA Pratap Grewal during the state assembly session.
Under the scheme, launched six months before the November 2023 assembly elections, eligible women beneficiaries receive ₹1,250 per month. The scheme currently benefits approximately 1.29 crore women.
Responding to Grewal’s inquiry about the scheme’s continuity and new enrolments, Bhuria clarified, “In the first phase, registration of beneficiaries was completed by August 20, 2023. New registration has not started, but instructions are issued separately to receive new applications.”
The Ladli Behna scheme began with pre-registration phases in March and July 2023, as per directives from the Women and Child Development Department. Minister Bhuria assured that the scheme remains operational, and benefits continue to reach existing beneficiaries.
Initially announced by then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in March 2023, the scheme provided ₹1,000 per month to beneficiaries. This amount was raised to ₹1,250 in October 2023 to enhance support for women. Further updates on new registrations are awaited.
