New Delhi, 26th August. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that the new BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Employment, and Environment) Policy will establish India as a global leader in biotechnology. This ambitious policy, introduced by the Modi Government, is expected to revolutionize India’s bioeconomy and significantly impact the manufacturing sector.

Dr. Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, forecasting that Modi will be recognized globally as a key figure in the new biotech boom. The policy aims to propel India’s bioeconomy, which has surged from $10 billion in 2014 to over $130 billion in 2024, with expectations to reach $300 billion by 2030.

The BioE3 Policy will enhance the ‘Make in India’ initiative by fostering bio-based products with minimal carbon footprints. It is designed to address global challenges such as climate change and non-renewable resource depletion by shifting from chemical-based industries to sustainable bio-based models, promoting a circular bioeconomy, and achieving net-zero carbon emissions through innovative waste utilization.

Dr. Singh highlighted that the policy will support entrepreneurship in various sectors, including bio-based chemicals, smart proteins, and climate-resilient agriculture. It will establish advanced bio manufacturing facilities, bio foundry clusters, and Bio-AI hubs to bridge the gap between laboratory and commercial-scale production.

The BioE3 Policy also aims to generate substantial employment, particularly in tier-II and tier-III cities, by leveraging local biomass sources. Dr. Singh emphasized that these bio manufacturing hubs will play a crucial role in producing mRNA-based vaccines and proteins and integrating AI to drive innovation.

In conclusion, Dr. Singh affirmed that the BioE3 Policy supports India’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), setting a benchmark for effective science policies that drive national development and sustainability.
