Chandrapur, 21st Nov: A 17-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) died by suicide in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur on Thursday night. The student had been enrolled in a residential coaching institute, Janta Career Launcher, to prepare for the medical entrance exam.

According to police sources, the student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. The family alleged that he was being harassed by the coaching institute’s staff and had informed them about the distress prior to the incident.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Chandrapur police registered a case against four employees of the coaching centre. A detailed investigation is currently underway.

The coaching institute has not issued a statement so far despite attempts to seek a response.

This is the second such incident involving a NEET aspirant in Chandrapur within two months. Earlier, 19-year-old Anurag Anil Borkar, who had secured a 99.99 percentile and an All India Rank of 1475 in the OBC category in NEET 2025, died by suicide after leaving a note expressing reluctance to pursue a medical career.

Authorities have urged students facing mental health challenges to seek help and support.
