NDA Govt’s Waqf Bill Shows “Total Bias Against Minorities”:Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, 8th August.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday condemned the NDA government’s proposed amendments to the Waqf Act, accusing it of being discriminatory against minorities. The Chief Minister criticized the Bill for purportedly undermining secularism and social justice.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill seeks to overhaul the 1995 Waqf Act, including renaming it to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995. Among its provisions, the Bill aims to broaden the representation on the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards by including Muslim women and non-Muslims, and proposes the creation of a separate board for Bohras and Aghakhanis.

Siddaramaiah alleged that the NDA government’s actions reflect its bias against minorities, asserting that the changes are part of a broader communal and casteist agenda. He described the move as a continuation of the government’s anti-minority stance and reiterated his party’s stance that the NDA is undermining secular values.

The Bill was circulated among Lok Sabha members on Tuesday night, ahead of its formal introduction.
