NCW Forms Committee to Probe Bhopal College Rape, Blackmail Cases

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – The National Commission for Women (NCW) has constituted a three-member committee to investigate disturbing allegations of rape, gang-rape, and blackmail involving students and alumni of a college in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

The NCW has directed the committee to submit its report within 10 days. The commission took suo moto cognizance of the matter after citing disturbing media reports.

Sources indicate that a fifth survivor has come forward to file a complaint, and gang-rape has been confirmed. A video of one of the survivors was reportedly discovered on the mobile phone of the accused, identified as Farhan. Sources also stated that another accused, named Ali, was seen in the horrific video.

The media reports allege that several other women students from the same college were also victims of gang-rape and blackmail by the accused individuals.

It has been reported that many survivors did not initially file police complaints due to fear of threats, harm, and intimidation.

The NCW has appointed retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Nirmal Kaur, former Director General of Police of Jharkhand, as the chairperson of the investigation committee. The other members include Jabalpur High Court lawyer Nirmala Nayak and NCW undersecretary Ashutosh Pande.

The NCW has instructed the committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations, engage with the concerned authorities and the survivors, and recommend necessary remedial actions to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.

The commission also stated that members of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) may assist the committee in its investigation.
