Kuwait City/New Delhi, 27th May: All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir over the circulation of a fake memento linked to a fictitious military operation, calling them “stupid jokers” and mocking Islamabad’s persistent disinformation campaign against India.
The controversy erupted after a fabricated memento titled Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos—purportedly a response to India’s Operation Sindoor—was presented by General Munir to PM Sharif at a high-profile event attended by Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The memento, meant to symbolise a Pakistani military victory over India, was exposed to be a doctored painting based on a 2019 Chinese military drill.
Speaking in Kuwait as part of India’s diplomatic outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Owaisi minced no words: “These stupid jokers want to compete with India. They gave a photograph of a 2019 Chinese Army drill, claiming it was a victory over India. They can’t even produce an original photograph.”
He further ridiculed Pakistan’s attempt to fabricate victory narratives, saying, “We used to hear in childhood, ‘nakal karne ke liye akal chahiye’ (copying requires intelligence). In nalayako ke pass toh akal bhi nahi hai (these worthless people don’t even have brains).”
This is not the first time Pakistan has been caught spreading fake visuals to bolster its military image. Earlier this month, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar displayed a manipulated image of a Daily Telegraph front page in Parliament, claiming the British newspaper had hailed the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) as “the undisputed king of the skies.” However, Pakistani daily Dawn exposed the image as fake, citing spelling errors, language inconsistencies, and the complete absence of such an article on The Telegraph’s platform.
These developments come in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s precise military retaliation on May 7 targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. Pakistan’s retaliatory attempts on May 8, 9, and 10 were swiftly countered by Indian forces, with New Delhi rejecting Islamabad’s exaggerated claims of damage to Indian military installations.
With growing evidence of misinformation, experts say Pakistan’s efforts to manipulate narratives through fabricated visuals are undermining its own credibility in the global diplomatic arena.
