My Visits Will Elevate Ties with Brunei, Singapore to New Heights: PM Modi

New Delhi, 3rd Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a landmark visit to Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, marking the first-ever bilateral visit to Brunei by an Indian Prime Minister. This visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei, setting the stage for deeper cooperation.

Before his departure, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to meet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family, with the aim of elevating the historical ties between the two nations to new heights.

Following his visit to Brunei, the Prime Minister will travel to Singapore on 4 September. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Additionally, PM Modi will engage with leaders from Singapore’s dynamic business community.

In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasized the importance of deepening the Strategic Partnership with Singapore, particularly in the areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development. He also highlighted the significance of both Brunei and Singapore as key partners in India’s Act East Policy and the broader Indo-Pacific Vision.

PM Modi expressed confidence that his visit would further strengthen India’s partnership with Brunei, Singapore, and the larger ASEAN region, fostering closer ties and cooperation in the region.
