Srinagar, 16th Sept. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have implemented multi-tier security arrangements to ensure the upcoming assembly elections are conducted freely and fairly, according to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V K Birdi.
As the first phase of voting is set for September 18, Birdi explained that Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF), Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP), and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) will be deployed across the union territory. This will be the first assembly election since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
“The security plan involves comprehensive arrangements for strong rooms, polling stations, and booths to ensure maximum voter participation,” Birdi said. He emphasized the importance of providing a secure environment that encourages citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear.
Birdi assured that the security forces remain alert to prevent any attempts to disrupt the situation in the region.
The elections will take place in three phases, with the first phase covering 24 seats on September 18, the second covering 26 seats on September 25, and the final phase covering 40 seats on October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.
