Bhopal, 19th Sept. Pramod Tandon, a staunch supporter of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday and announced his intention to join the Congress party.
Tandon resigned from the BJP’s primary membership and state executive membership in a letter to BJP state president VD Sharma.
Following his resignation, City Congress President Surjit Singh Chadha and acting president Golu Agnihotri visited Pramod Tandon’s residence to greet him and invite him back to the Congress party.
During this, Tandon said, “I have been a companion of Madhavrao Scindia. When I joined the BJP with Jyotiraditya Scindia, we had great affection and togetherness but now Scndia’s priorities have changed. I have not talked to Scindia for six months. I am resigning because of BJP’s arrogance and dictatorship.”
Seeing Kamal Nath’s true dedication for the state, he is going to join the Congress. Kamal Nath is about to visit Indore on September 23, on the same day he will formally take membership of Congress again, he added.
Along with Tandon, BJP has suffered a big blow in Indore’s Rau Assembly also. BJP leader Dinesh Malhar has resigned from the party and joined Congress.
Notably, several BJP leaders, including Scindia supporters and a current MLA, quit and joined the Congress party ahead of the state assembly elections later this year.
The state will have Assembly elections later this year. The state will elect legislators from 230 Assembly seats through the polls.
The Congress won the last Assembly elections in 2018, with veteran leader Kamal Nath taking oath as chief minister.
Nonetheless, a political uproar rocked the state in 2020, when then-Congressman Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the saffron movement, along with 22 staunch MLAs.
After being reduced to a minority, the Congress government collapsed, and the BJP formed a government, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan returning as chief minister.
