Sagar, 5th August.
Madhya Pradesh police have confiscated 72,000 bottles of banned cough syrup containing codeine and arrested two individuals in connection with the seizure. The bottles, packed in 800 boxes, were seized in Sagar city, as confirmed by Additional Director General (Law and Order) Jaideep Prasad on Sunday.

The operation began after police received information suggesting the cough syrup was being sold in Rewa. Subsequent investigations traced the source to a warehouse in Sagar. The confiscated cough syrup, valued at ₹1.22 crore, was found in a godown owned by Arvind Jain, a Sagar resident.

Both Arvind Jain and his son, Sattu Jain, have been arrested and charged under the Madhya Pradesh Drugs Control Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Codeine-based cough syrups are known to be widely abused, especially among youth, due to their opiate content. The authorities continue to crack down on illegal drug trafficking to combat substance abuse.
