MP: Case Filed Against Congress MLA Umang Singhar on Charges of Raping & Assaulting Woman

Dhar, 21st Nov. Police have filed a case against Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA and ex-minister Umang Singhar on charges of raping and assaulting a 38-year-old woman.

The case was lodged on Sunday evening at Naugaon police station in Dhar city following a complaint by the woman, who claimed she was living with the accused as his ‘wife’ and alleged that he sexually assaulted her, Dhar’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Pratap Singh said.

The MLA, who represents Gandhwani and also serves as the Congress’ national secretary, could not be reached for comment.

K K Mishra, chairman of the MP Congress Committee’s media department, told PTI that he does not have information about the case, but it appears to be “politically motivated.”

According to SP Singh, the woman accused the accused of physical torture, rape, abuse, committing unnatural acts, and threatening to kill her.

According to the official, the accused were charged under Indian Penal Code Sections 294 (obscene act), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (2) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 498 (A) (harassment of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) based on her complaint.

He also stated that further legal actions were being taken.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said in a video statement that the case was filed against Singhar based on his wife’s complaint.

According to police information, the MLA had other wives too, BJP leader Mishra claimed.
