New Delhi, 22nd June: Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth will lead an Indian delegation on a four-day visit to Kenya and Madagascar from June 23 to 26, 2025, aimed at strengthening defence and bilateral relations with the two African nations.
In the first leg of the visit, Seth will travel to Kenya to jointly unveil a Commemorative Pillar honouring fallen soldiers of India and Kenya at Taita-Taveta County on June 23.
In the second leg, the Minister will attend the 65th Independence Day celebrations of Madagascar and the anniversary of the creation of the Malagasy Armed Forces in Antananarivo on June 26.
India and Kenya, maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean Region, enjoy a strong relationship built on shared colonial histories, high-level exchanges, robust trade, medical cooperation, and vibrant people-to-people ties. Several Indians played a notable role in Kenya’s freedom struggle.
India’s relations with Madagascar are similarly rooted in historical ties and mutual interests. The bilateral relationship spans political, military, economic, and diplomatic spheres, reinforcing regional stability and shared growth.
The visit follows invitations extended by the Minister of Defence of Kenya and the Minister of Armed Forces of Madagascar.
