Moral Duty to Ensure Clean Environment for Future: President Murmu

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the two-day National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’ in the national capital today, emphasizing the moral responsibility of ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for future generations.

In her address, President Murmu stressed the need for continuous activism, awareness, and public participation in environmental conservation. She underscored that environmental protection must become a way of life, not just a periodic agenda.

Highlighting the concerns of future generations, she said, “Just as we worry about our children’s education and careers, we must also think about the air they breathe, the water they drink, and whether they will experience the beauty of nature.”

The President reiterated India’s rich tradition of nurturing rather than exploiting nature, emphasizing that the country’s approach to development aligns with environmental preservation. She noted that India has achieved several of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) ahead of schedule, reflecting its commitment to global climate goals.

Praising the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for its decisive role in environmental governance and justice, she acknowledged its landmark rulings that have shaped environmental policies and public health.

President Murmu urged institutions, stakeholders, and citizens to work collectively toward sustainability, asserting that India must continue leading global green initiatives. She expressed confidence that by 2047, India will emerge as a developed nation with clean air, water, and abundant greenery, setting an example for the world.

The conference, organized by the NGT, brings together experts, policymakers, and environmentalists to discuss pressing challenges and formulate strategies for sustainable environmental management.
