New Delhi, 1st Jan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reiterated that the Narendra Modi government stands firmly with farmers, likening its support to a protective shield. Shah’s statement came after the Union Cabinet’s announcement of significant measures to assist the farming community, marking the first day of 2025.
“The Modi government stands with farmers like a protective shield, and today, on the very first day of 2025, it has reiterated this resolve,” Shah wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The decision of additional subsidy on DAP will ensure that DAP is available to our farmers at a reasonable price even if its prices increase in international markets. Thanks to Modiji for this special package.”
As part of the new measures, the Cabinet approved a one-time package worth up to Rs 3,850 crore to subsidize the price of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertiliser. This move aims to protect farmers from rising international fertiliser prices.
Shah also highlighted the Cabinet’s approval of Rs 69,515.71 crore for the continuation of the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, which shields millions of farmers from the financial risk of crop loss.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the Fund for Innovation and Technology (FIAT) with an allocation of Rs 824.77 crore, aimed at fostering agricultural innovation and supporting technological advancements in the sector.
