Modi Govt Picks Tharoor to Lead Global Delegation Against Pakistan-Sponsored Terrorism

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 16th May: A day after facing criticism from the Congress for allegedly overstepping the party’s line, senior leader Shashi Tharoor has been named as a key member of the government’s all-party delegation that will travel abroad to expose Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. According to sources, the delegation—led by Tharoor—will first visit the United States, followed by a multi-nation tour across Europe.

The decision comes as part of the Modi government’s intensified diplomatic offensive following Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation aims to present India’s position on cross-border terrorism and build global consensus against Pakistan’s continued support for terror networks.

Sources said the Centre approached Tharoor, currently chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, to lead the delegation. In a bid to build bipartisan support, several opposition MPs were also invited to join the tour.

Among them, TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay was contacted but has reportedly declined due to health concerns. The Samajwadi Party has proposed Rajiv Rai as their nominee for the mission. As of now, no replacement from TMC has been confirmed.

According to reports, the diplomatic mission will span ten days, with MPs assigned to various regional blocs. The delegation is expected to hold high-level meetings and briefings aimed at spotlighting Pakistan’s alleged role in fostering terrorism.

This move marks a rare moment of political cooperation amid otherwise sharp divisions between the ruling BJP and Opposition parties.
