Chennai, 20th June. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for the next three hours for the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu.
During the three hours, IMD predicts moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain in scattered locations in Thiravallur, Claennai, Kancheepurani, and Chengalpattu districts.
“Convective cells over Chennai, Chengalpattu. Kanchipuram and Thituvallur districts during the past two hours have caused intense thunderstorms with moderate rain in many areas of these districts,” the IMD said.
Rainfall in various parts of Tamil Nadu may cause water logging in low-lying areas and traffic congestion, among other things.

Schools in various districts of Tamil Nadu will stay closed on Monday due to heavy rain, according to local authorities.
So far, schools in six districts have been declared closed: Ranipet, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, and Vellore.
On Sunday night, Chennai had widespread heavy rain.
