New Delhi, 26th May. The new Parliament building, set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, symbolizes India’s diverse culture, with carpets from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, bamboo flooring from Tripura, and stone sculptures from Rajasthan.

The teakwood used in building came from Nagpur, Maharashtra, and the red and white sandstone came from Sarmathura, Rajasthan. The sandstone for the Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb in the national capital was also known to have sourced from Sarmathura.

The Kesharia green stone came from Udaipur, the red granite from Lakha near Ajmer, and the white marble from Ambaji in Rajasthan.

“In a way, the entire country came together to construct the temple of democracy, thus reflecting the true spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” an official said.

The steel structure for the false ceilings of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers was sourced from the union territory of Daman and Diu, while the furniture was made in Mumbai.

The stone ‘jaali’ (lattice) works that adorn the structure were taken from Rajnagar, Rajasthan, and Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The materials for the Ashoka Emblem came from Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Jaipur in Rajasthan, while the Ashok Chakra that adorns the huge walls of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers, as well as the exteriors of the parliament building, came from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

Sculptors from Abu Road and Udaipur worked on the stone carving, while the stone aggregates came from Kotputali, Rajasthan.

For the construction of the new parliament building, manufactured sand, or M-sand, from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana was used to create a concrete mix.

M-Sand is considered environment friendly as it is manufactured by crushing large hard stones or granite and not by dredging of river beds.

Fly ash bricks were obtained from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, while brass works and precast trenches were sourced from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
