Hyderabad- Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya led a special cycle rally at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Telangana, to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event witnessed participation from state sports ministers, athletes, and sports administrators, highlighting the strength and achievements of women in sports.
Flagging off the rally, Dr. Mandaviya said, “This cycle rally is a testament to our Nari Shakti, showcasing the determination, leadership, and excellence of women in sports and beyond.”
The rally was organized on the sidelines of the Chintan Shivir, a national-level discussion focusing on India’s preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the country’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Games. Members of Kanha Shanti Vanam, a wellness and spiritual center, also took part in the event.
Launch of ASMITA Newsletter
To mark the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya, along with Sports Secretary Smt. Sujata Chaturvedi and Olympian shuttler Pulella Gopichand, launched the first edition of the ASMITA newsletter. The initiative, part of the government’s ‘Sports for Women’ mission, aims to promote gender inclusivity in sports and highlight the impact of ASMITA leagues in nurturing young female athletes.
Gopichand, who has coached Olympic medalists Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu, emphasized the need for continued support for women in sports. “Women have won more Olympic medals for India. ASMITA is a great platform, and when 15 sports ministers join Dr. Mandaviya to discuss our Olympic dreams, it is a fantastic initiative,” he said.
Promoting Fitness Through Cycling
The rally was led by Assam’s Sports Minister Shrimati Nandita Gorlosa, women trainees from the Gopichand Badminton Academy, and para-athlete Deepthi Jeevanji, a bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Dr. Mandaviya, who actively promotes fitness initiatives, urged citizens to incorporate cycling into their routines. “Cycling should become a fashion and a tool to fight obesity and lifestyle diseases. I urge everyone to dedicate at least an hour every Sunday to fitness and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Movement,” he said.
The scenic 3-km cycling route at Kanha Shanti Vanam provided an energizing start to Women’s Day celebrations, with participants embracing the spirit of fitness and empowerment.
Shrimati Gorlosa shared her excitement, saying, “I haven’t cycled in 30 years, but today brought back wonderful memories. On Women’s Day, it felt special to be part of an initiative that promotes fitness and well-being.”
