Microsoft’s New Windows 11 Policy Leaves Older PCs Behind

Microsoft has tightened its rules for running Windows 11, allowing only PCs that meet the company’s stringent requirements to operate the operating system. While some users previously managed to install Windows 11 on unsupported devices through workarounds, this will no longer be possible with the latest update.

The tech giant has clarified that TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) is mandatory for Windows 11. Earlier hopes that Microsoft might relax this requirement for older devices have been dashed. Even PCs that meet all other specifications but lack TPM 2.0 will not be able to install or update to the latest version of Windows 11.

Focus on Security and Privacy

Microsoft emphasizes that TPM 2.0 is critical for data security and privacy. This requirement aligns with the introduction of new features and AI integrations, aiming to provide users with enhanced protection and privacy.

The company suggests two options for users:

  1. Upgrade to a new PC that fulfills all Windows 11 specifications.
  2. Consider alternatives like MacBooks or other operating systems.

Challenges for Older Systems

The change poses a challenge for users of older Windows 11-compatible systems. However, Microsoft asserts that the move is essential for improved security and performance. The company believes these measures will ensure a safer and more robust computing environment for its users.
