New Delhi, 7th Dec. The Aam Aadmi Party appears to be on track to end the BJP’s 15-year reign in the Delhi municipal corporation, with the latest trends and results showing the party has crossed the 126-seat threshold, leading the BJP by more than 25 seats.
According to figures available at 11.30 a.m., the AAP had won 56 seats and was leading in another 77, bringing the total to 133. The BJP, on the other hand, has won 46 and was leading in 58, for a total of 104 votes.
The Congress, on the other hand, trailed far behind, winning only four seats while leading in six.
The MCD has 250 wards, with a simple majority of 126.
Shakeela Begum, an independent candidate, has won the Seelampur seat in northeast Delhi.
The counting of votes began at 8 a.m., and early trends (at 9:30 a.m.) showed the BJP ahead of the AAP by a significant margin, but the pendulum quickly swung in the AAP’s favour.
This was the first election following the MCD’s reunification earlier this year.
In 2017, the BJP won 181 of the 270 municipal wards, while the AAP won only 48 and the Congress came in third with 30.
