MCD Elections: BJP Releases ‘Vachan Patra,’ Promising Housing for Slum Dwellers

New Delhi, 10th Nov. The BJP released its manifesto for the upcoming MCD elections in Delhi on Thursday, promising EWS flats for residents of the city’s slums.

The manifesto was released by BJP Delhi unit president Adesh Gupta in the presence of party MP Manoj Tiwari and MCD poll management committee head Ashish Sood.

The ‘Vachan Patra’ (pledge letter) included images of flats recently allocated to slum dwellers in Kalkaji.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 3,024 newly constructed Economically Weaker Section flats in Delhi as part of an in-situ slum rehabilitation project last month, handing over keys to slum dwellers at the Bhoomihin camp.

Gupta slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming that the Arvind Kejriwal government in the national capital has never attempted to improve the living conditions of slum dwellers, whereas Prime Minister Modi has shown his concern for the poor by providing good quality flats with all amenities.

“The BJP is committed to provide such good quality flats as were built in Kalkaji to all the slum dwellers as per Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makan scheme, “he said.

“BJP and PM Modi always delivered on their promise in Delhi. AAP made 10 promises in 2015. We will just like to remind them about 2-3 guarantees they promised to people in Delhi. They said 11,000 public buses and 500 km of metro route will be given to Delhi. But where are those buses? Where has it gone? They also said they will combat pollution but the AQI is reaching 500-600,” he added.

Tiwari, a Lok Sabha member from Northeast Delhi, stated that the ‘vachan patra’ also includes a form that people living in slums will fill out and submit to the relevant departments, after which the slum dwellers will be given houses.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will hold elections for 250 wards on December 4. On December 7, the results will be announced.

The saffron party formed a 20-member election committee for Delhi’s civic body elections on Wednesday. The committee, to be led by Gupta, would include all seven BJP MPs from Delhi as well as other senior leaders. According to a senior leader, it was formed with the approval of the party’s national president, JP Nadda.

The panel will meet for the first time today to discuss the party’s election candidates.
