Mayawati Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Misleading Statements on Reservation

Lucknow, 11th Sept. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of making misleading statements regarding reservation policies on Wednesday.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister criticized Gandhi for allegedly failing to support the SC/ST reservation in promotions bill during the Congress-led government’s tenure.

Mayawati claimed that Gandhi’s recent clarification denying any opposition to reservation was deceptive. “During the 10 years of Congress rule before the BJP came to power, Rahul Gandhi, along with the Samajwadi Party, obstructed the passage of the Bill for SC/ST reservation in promotions,” Mayawati said.

She accused the Congress of making empty promises about increasing reservation limits and highlighted that such measures were never implemented during their time in office.

The BSP chief argued that Congress’s track record on implementing reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST) was inadequate.

“Congress’s claims of supporting SC/ST/OBC welfare are mere election rhetoric. When in power, they act contrary to the interests of these communities,” Mayawati asserted.

Mayawati’s statements come amidst the ongoing political discourse where her party, the BSP, remains unaffiliated with either the BJP-led NDA or the Opposition INDIA bloc, which includes the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP).
