New Delhi, 10th May: At least five hardcore terrorists affiliated with the banned terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), including relatives of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, have been identified among those killed in Indian precision strikes in Pakistan on May 7 under “Operation Sindoor,” sources said on Saturday.
Among those identified is Mudassar Khadian Khas, also known as Mudassar or Abu Jundal, a prominent member of LeT who was in charge of Markaz Taiba in Muridke. Sources reported that wreaths were laid at his funeral on behalf of both Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The funeral prayer, held notably at a government school, was led by Hafiz Abdul Rauf of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), who is a designated global terrorist. A serving Lieutenant General of the Pakistan Army and the Inspector General of Punjab Police were also reported to have attended the ceremony.
Two key relatives of JeM founder Maulana Masood Azhar were also among the deceased. Hafiz Muhammad Jameel, Azhar’s elder brother-in-law, who was in charge of Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur – a site targeted in the strikes – was killed. Sources indicated he was actively involved in radicalizing youth and fundraising for JeM. Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, another brother-in-law of Masood Azhar, also died in the operation. Known by aliases including Ustad Ji, Mohd Salim, and Ghosi Sahab, he was affiliated with JeM and was wanted in connection with the IC-814 hijacking case and linked to multiple terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khalid, alias Abu Akasha, of LeT, and Mohammad Hassan Khan of JeM were also identified among the terrorists killed. Khalid was involved in several attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and in weapons smuggling from Afghanistan. Sources said his funeral in Faisalabad was attended by senior Pakistani army officials and the Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad. Khan, the son of Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri, an operational commander of JeM in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, was reported to have played a key role in coordinating terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
These identifications stem from the Indian operation which targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
