Manipur Closes Schools on Sept 7 after Bomb Attacks in Bishnupur

GG News Bureau
Imphal, 6th Sept. The Manipur government on Friday announced the closure of all schools across the state on September 7 in response to escalating unrest triggered by bomb attacks in Bishnupur district. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and teachers amidst the current volatile situation.

According to a notification from the Directorate of Education (Schools), both government and private schools, including central schools, will remain closed for the day. The notification cited safety concerns due to the recent violence and ongoing unrest in the state.

The move follows a series of bomb attacks in Bishnupur district on Friday, which resulted in one fatality and injuries to five others. The attacks targeted a residential area in Moirang, where an elderly man was killed when a suspected improvised rocket exploded in the compound of former Chief Minister Mairembam Koireng’s residence. The blast occurred while the man was preparing for religious rituals. The rocket was the second of its kind fired in the district on the same day.

In response to the growing crisis, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a coalition of valley-based civil organizations, has declared a “public emergency” across the five districts of Imphal Valley. This declaration underscores the seriousness of the situation and the urgent need for enhanced security measures.

Authorities are working to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents amid the ongoing unrest.
