Chamoli, 2nd August. A 24-year-old man accused of making an obscene gesture toward a teenage girl in Nandanagar tehsil of Chamoli district has been arrested, police said on Monday.
The arrest took place on Sunday night in Bijnore, Uttar Pradesh, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pramod Shah.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, ignited tensions in Nandanagar, leading hundreds of people to protest in the streets, demanding the arrest of the accused.
The situation escalated as angry villagers marched through the streets and even attempted to vandalize the barber shop operated by the accused.
Given the sensitivity of the situation, which involves two different communities, Chamoli’s Superintendent of Police and other officials remain stationed in Nandanagar. However, authorities have stated that the situation is currently under control.
