Major Terror Plot Foiled: 28 IEDs Recovered and Destroyed Along Manipur-Myanmar Border

Imphal, April 28 — In a series of operations that were high-risk but potentially could have prevented disastrous terror attacks, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police successfully identified and defused 28 lethal Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the sensitive Manipur-Myanmar border at the weekend.

Based on specific intelligence reports regarding the activity of anti-social forces close to the border, combined forces carried out pinpoint operations in sensitive regions in T Minou, Yangoubung , and T Bongmol villages in Manipur’s volatile **Tengnoupal district**.

Official sources say a trained Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) had defused six IEDs at T Minou under the Moreh Sub-Division, which moved with surgical precision without causing any collateral damage. “Had the devices exploded, the impact on civilians and security forces would have been disastrous,” an official stated.

In a shocking find, another 22 explosive devices, weighing a total of 22 kilograms, were discovered at Yangoubung and T Bongmol villages. These IEDs were laid in strategic positions, obviously meant for maximum damage.

Appreciating the urgent danger, security personnel resolved to **destroy the 22 bombs in place** — a dangerous but unavoidable action to preclude any chance of remote detonation or abuse. The sensational field destruction of these deadly devices demonstrated the courage and skill of the bomb disposal teams under extreme pressure.

There were no arrests in the operations but the seizure of **critical remains and components** was immediately taken over by the **Manipur Police** to be subjected to detailed forensic testing and investigation. Efforts to track down the network of handlers for planting the explosives are being stepped up by authorities with a suspicion that it involved cross-border insurgent organizations with connections in Myanmar-based operators.

This significant achievement has again brought to the fore the growingly risky nexus that prevails along the porous **India-Myanmar border**, with insurgent groups, drug cartels, and anti-national forces still thriving.

Security personnel have been said to have increased patrols and intelligence activities along the border to pre-empt further dangers.

Officials cautioned, “This is a reminder that the fight against terrorism on India’s eastern border is ongoing — and constant vigilance is the only defense against the next great calamity.”
