Mumbai, 28th Oct. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar officially entered the fray for the upcoming November 20 Assembly elections by submitting their nominations on Monday.
Shinde will contest from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat in Thane, with Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis by his side as he filed his papers. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded Kedar Dighe, nephew of the late Thane strongman Anand Dighe, against Shinde.
In Baramati, Ajit Pawar faces his nephew Yugendra Pawar, representing Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP). Ajit Pawar’s candidacy was marked by a high-profile rally, while Yugendra adopted a more subdued approach.
In other significant nominations, Maharashtra’s Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar of the BJP is running from Ballarpur, where he faces Congress candidate Santosh Singh Rawat. Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, will face BJP’s Krishnalal Sahare in Bramhapuri.
Meanwhile, Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, filed his nomination from Mahim, and Salil Deshmukh, son of former state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, will submit his papers from Katol on Tuesday after arriving late due to a rally.
The deadline for nomination withdrawal is November 4. Polling in Maharashtra will take place on November 20, with results expected on November 23.
